Welcome to the National Water Monitoring Network
The protection and integrated management of the county’s water resources is governed by the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC), which is supported by Nitrates Directive (91/676/EEC) for the protection of waters from nitrate pollution from agricultural sources, by the Directive on the protection of groundwater against pollution and deterioration (2006/118/EC) and the Directive on priority substances (2008/105/EC).
Aim of the National Water Monitoring Network is the systematic monitoring of the quality and quantity characteristics of water bodies by determining the measurement points and the network operating bodies.
Through this interactive website, the water quality monitoring programme is presented, as well as the results from the programme implementation. The public is directly informed about the status of every water system of the country, through thematic maps and structured databases.
